Losing Weight – South Beach Diet – Day 7

I weighed myself and I lost weight. How much? To be revealed after day 13. I admit that I am bored on this diet with the choice of foods. I know that I can probably open up the South Beach Diet cookbook and make something creative but I have no desire to do so. It’s still hot here like in the high 90s and that always squashes my desire to do anything in the kitchen except open and close the refrigerator door. This is what I ate. I better write it down or I’ll forget. Breakfast – 2 egg omelet

Low Glycemic Feast – Day 6

First let me explain what low glycemic means. If you do a search, you’ll come to numerous explanations that all — more or less — say the same thing. When you eat foods that are low on the glycemic index, the foods take longer to be absorbed and digested. The benefit is you eat less, build more insulin resistance (good for diabetics), and have less spikes in blood sugar which cause people to overeat. That is the simple definition. This is what I ate today: Breakfast – 2 egg omelet with fresh spinach and lox Lunch – ah, lunch. What

South Beach Diet – Low Glycemic – Day 5

Today I was craving chocolate. I didn’t have any but I thought about chocolate a lot. Actually bittersweet chocolate or cocoa powder without sugar is low glycemic but is not allowed on phase 1 of the South Beach diet. I don’t think I ate much today which is fine plus I went to the gym which is a plus. One of the down sides of phase 1 is that you can only have eggs for breakfast. Fortunately, I love eggs but I miss cereal on phase 1 but it only lasts for two weeks so I keep telling myself that I can live

South Beach Diet-Low Glycemic Eating-Day 4

For some reason I was craving fruit today…but I didn’t have any. It’s a good thing that I don’t have any fruit in the house. I went to do phone banking today for three hours. I got hungry but the only available snacks were chocolate chip cookies, pecan bars, biscotti, and potato chips. I have to remember to bring a suitable snack for me. I had a cup of black coffee. I also ran into a friend who was there volunteering the same shift was me so we decided to go out to lunch. So much for not going out

Low Glycemic Diet – Day 2 – South Beach Diet

I think it was yesterday’s devastating economic forecast that prevented me from having an appetite.  I simply have not eaten much; that’s not a bad thing. Here’s what I ate yesterday: Breakfast – 2 eggs scrambled with lox and sauteed mushrooms Lunch – Southwest cobb salad* Snack – 8 oz of low sodium garden patch vegetable juice and 7 almonds (15 almonds is a serving) Dinner – turkey burger, 10 steamed cauliflower dipped in eggplant hummus, 8 almonds, and diet ginger ale That’s all I’ve had to eat yesterday plus black coffee and iced tea. I went out to lunch

Low Glycemic Diet – Day 1- South Beach Diet

I decided to go on the low glycemic South Beach Diet – phase 1 — for two weeks. Every night I will report what I ate. I hate this kind of mental bookkeeping but if I wait until tomorrow, I’ll forget. Phase 1 of South Beach diet is pretty strict but I figure it’s only for two weeks and I can do anything for two weeks, right? Each day I will explain a bit about the South Beach diet. For today, these are some of the foods you cannot eat — no fruit or fruit juice, no wine/beer/alcohol, no bread/pasta/rice/potatoes/cereal/corn, no milk

Weight Loss Memoir

I’ve been delinquent in posting weight loss updates. Let’s see — I’m in maintaining mode which is still better than being in gaining mode. For months now I have maintained my 10 pound weight loss but my goal was to lose 20 pounds by year end. It’s doable but I cannot be sure it will get done. This has been a rough year for me as I’m sure it has been a rough year for many what with the economy, job losses and cutbacks, foreclosures, gas prices, etc. My two biggest weight loss problems are that I don’t exercise regularly

Growing Older, A Weight Loss Memoir

Yesterday was my birthday and I turned one of those numbers that makes your heart stop and gives great pause to the universe. I don’t know what I expected but it was just like any other day except I opened some birthday cards and went to dinner with friends except this time they paid.  A birthday is a birthday is a birthday and a number is a state of mind. I turned 60. I can’t seem to believe it myself. Turning 40 was no big deal nor was 50 but 60 is mind numbing.  It was less eventful than losing
