Hot Cocoa Day – December 13

It’s that time of the year — Hot Cocoa time. Who doesn’t like hot cocoa? That’s what I thought, nobody. The KRUPS people sent me some ideas for hot cocoa and they were so enticing, I thought I would share. You can use your favorite hot cocoa recipe. Most boxes of cocoa powder have recipes or if you are super lazy, buy the pre-made mix. Whipped cream optional. Marshmallows: While marshmallows are a standard choice for any cup of hot cocoa, mix it up by toasting those mini marshmallows over a fire before dropping them in. Espresso: For the caffeine

A Craving Worth Giving In To

Saturday evening, after a day of running errands and a late lunch/early dinner at our favorite Chinese buffet, Todd and I were both craving something sweet. I had been thinkjng about a batch of chocolate chip cookies, but really didn’t have the energy ever for that, when Todd mentioned, “Cake would be real good right now.” Now, sometimes, this sort of thinking (cake, pie, ice cream, etc.) has us putting on shoes and heading to the nearest grocery store just because. But it was after 9pm, we were both in pajamas, and really didn’t want cake enough to go out

Circle of Food Leftovers: chocolate, Agent Orange, salmonella, chicken jerky

Here’s a few leftovers of what I saw around the web this past week: Good news for chocolate lovers A recent study showed that frequent chocolate consumption was associated with lower body mass index (BMI), even when adjusting for calorie intake, saturated fat intake, and mood. Chocolate seems to have many benefits. So glad the study was about chocolate and not Brussel sprouts. Bad news: Agent Orange corn As if our foods don’t have enough pesticides and toxins. Dow Chemical is petitioning the USDA to approve a new GMO Agent Orange corn to tolerate 2,4-D, a main chemical component of

A Taste of Chocolate – Fundraising Success

A Taste of Chocolate – Rotary Fundraising Event Today along with some other Tucson food writers – Edie Jarolim, Rita Connelly, and Mary Paganelli as well as KOLD-TV reporter Mark Stine, I was honored to be chosen as a “celebrity” judge at the Rincon Rotary event – A Taste of Chocolate – at the Doubletree Hotel ballroom. The Rincon Rotary raises money for local students seeking scholarships and the dictionary project for third graders. Internationally, the Rotary raises money for polio vaccines. According to the gentleman (whose name I don’t recall) said that four countries –Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, and Nigeria

Give Me 3 CCs–Stat!

Unlike a goodly portion of human adults, I don’t rely on a cup of coffee or three to start my day (part of it is that whole no-caffeine thing, of course). Sure, I indulge in the occasional Venti Decaf Soy Caramel Macchiatto when I manage to leave the house a little early but, for the most part, my coffee-flavored indulgences happen later in the day. Much later. A good after-dinner coffee drink–with plenty of cream, of course–can only be improved by one thing, in my mind: chocolate. So I offer up this take on the chocolate coffee martini. 3-C Martini

The Melting Pot Experience… at Home

I love going to the Melting Pot because it is such a fun time, but I usually never go because of the price. The food is pretty good, but my favorite part is the dessert. I do like all their cheese fondue choices along with meat and veggies, but I am not willing to pay that price when I can make better food at home. But like I said, the chocolate fondue is amazing. At the restaurant, it costs about $15 or $20 for dessert which isn’t too bad, but I decided to go and try to make it at

On Sale: Godiva Chocolates, Life is Sweet

Image via Wikipedia Annual sale: Godiva Chocolates Chocolate! There are sales and then there are sales. My favorite sale is when something I truly could not afford or a what I deem as a luxury goes on sale…in this case, Godiva chocolate. Recently, my greyhound died. She was 12 years 9 months and lived with me for 10 years 6 months, a lifetime, more than some of my friends’ marriages. Believe it or not, she was the alpha bitch. I miss her madly. I think I will treat myself to some Godiva chocolate which is on sale for a short
