Two more companies are starting to recall pig ears after finding a batch of the treats with salmonella. The pig ears from these companies were distributed from November 2010 to April 2011 and were distributed to many states. The pig ears were sold in bulk throughout the united states.
From this batch, one dog has already been reported to get sick from the salmonella. Pets that are affected from this disease tend to have diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Some pets will have smaller symptoms like fever, decreased appetite and abdominal pain.
The salmonella has those effects on the animals consuming the pig ears but can also affect the people handling the pig ears. This can be especially true if the people have not washed their hands after handling the product.
