New Tucson Restaurant: Agustin Brasserie – Opens March 23

I was fortunate to enjoy lunch there today. I took my friend Marianne. She exclaimed, “Wow! This doesn’t look anything like anywhere in Tucson. It’s so French.” Marianne felt transported and tried to practice her francais on me.

She ordered French onion soup and a burger with frites. I ordered the house salad (love the creamy horseradish-y lemon-y dressing) and the burger with frites. Oh, boy. The brioche bun was heavenly and apparently is a well kept secret as to where it comes from but oohh la la. Buns aside — the meat was robustly flavored or maybe it was a better quality of meat than I am used to. Marianne practically shouted, “This beats Zin Burger by far!” And those frites weren’t bad either.

Trying to eat less carbs, I put the bun aside except for a taste in lieu of the frites. Some people can have it all but not my hips.

At the Brasserie, was Bryan from JaxKitchen and The Abbey and his general manager. I was eying his food and he seemed familiar but was out of context until he came over and said hi. It’s nice to see other restaurateurs eating around town.

The service was excellent today (thanks to Heidi) and at last Friday’s cocktail party (thanks to Ron). Ron told us that he is a career waiter and proud of it. Go Ron! As for the wait staff they all wear blue shirts and they are not all young and a size zero. Embrace service diversity.

I have a feeling that Agustin Brasserie is in the right place at the right time and I look forward to introducing it to friends and out of town guests and going there for Sunday brunch.
