As tempting as that bowl of kibble is — don’t eat it. People who handle contaminated dog food or touch an infected dog, especially if they don’t wash their hands afterward, can ingest the bacteria and get sick.
Unfortunately, humans (that’s you) can and do get sick — salmonella infantis — from dog food. Not only do people get sick but they are also being hospitalized.
The dog food is produced by Diamond Pet Foods’ manufacturing plant in Gaston, South Carolina. Dozens of brands from high end to low end are suspect.
People in the following states have been affected: Alabama, California, Illinois, New York, and South Carolina, plus.
