Tucson Drinks: Storming the Sazerac – September 20-23

6a00d8341c630a53ef0120a529ec8c970c-800wi-sazeracHere’s a word you don’t hear too often in Tucson – Sazerac. In 2008, the Sazerac was deemed New Orlean’s official cocktail but in the Old Pueblo not so much. We have the World Margarita Championship happening September 30.

But back to the Sazerac which is alive and well at The Parish Gastropub. The drink is traditionally a combination of Cognac or rye, absinthe, Peychaud’s Bitters, sugar and lemon twist. Sometimes Herbsaint is substituted for absinthe. All of this magical mixture is drunk from chilled old-fashioned glasses.

As for the storming part, on September 23, 1949, a bunch of determined women stormed the Sazerac Bar at the Roosevelt New Orleans Hotel demanding to be allowed inside.

Raise your glass to wild women everywhere!

The Parish will pay tribute to the women of New Orleans and their legendary influence on the historic anniversary in 1949 of “Stormin’ of the Sazerac,” complete with nightly live music.
