Happy Hour is my favorite meal of the day…especially in the summer. By 5ish pm I’ve been awake almost a dozen hours and I am hungry and tired. Happy hour is my dinner.
I recently tried the happy hour at North Italia Restaurant* in La Encantada and then was so happy we meandered over to Blanco Tacos + Tequila for more happiness. Sort of like a double scoop of ice cream but only better with a buzz.
One of my top favorite restaurants is North Italia so why not start here and begin with white sangria, certainly most refreshing on a 108-degree day…light with an undertone of citrus that spreads happiness with every sip.
We also shared the chef’s board, a lavish mix of Italian meats and cheeses, condiments and grilled bread. Then the pizza…chewy crust with just the right amount of toppings
Happy hour here happens weekdays from 3 to 6 pm and all day Sunday.
A few short steps away sits Blanco, which always seems to be hopping with beautiful people. We ordered a pitcher of the margarita of the month (strawberry coconut). Closing my eyes, I could almost picture myself on a beach in Mexico with a tropical breeze blowing. Where’s the paper umbrella?
At Blanco, happy hour is every day from 3 to 6 pm. You can sup on $3 salads, $3 tacos on house made corn tortillas, $4 tortillas and $3 nachos, quesadillas and dips. And if you have room — $2 churros dipped in chocolate sauce. Alcohol refreshments cost $3, $4 and $5. Bueno.
Both North Italia and Blanco are in the Fox Restaurant Concepts family so what’s a little competition with itself at La Encantada (Skyline/Campbell). Don’t worry be happy.
*North Italia also serves 4-course community dinners; the next special event will be July 20 at 6:30 pm featuring foods prepared by chefs Carlos Calderon and Omar Huerta. They will explain each dish and answer your questions. Price: $50 includes beverage pairings; tax & gratuity not included. Please call 520.299.1600 to reserve your seats.
