Tucson Ariz—Chef Ryan Clark, owner of Agustin Kitchen was recently named Chairman of the Board of Slow Food Southern Arizona.  Chef Clark follows local restaurateur Don Luria (of Terra Cotta fame), who led the group for the past two years.  “Working with Don has helped me grow a lot as a person.  He is a real inspiration and has a positive relationship with almost every person in Tucson.  I am excited to step up and continue Slow Food’s local promise.”

A passionate supporter of local farmers and purveyors, Clark joined the group because its mission resonated strongly with his personal philosophy of using indigenous, seasonal ingredients to prepare fresh delicious food.  Slow Food USA is part of the international Slow Food network  of over 150,000 members in more than 150 countries.  Slow Food Southern Arizona is one of 170 local chapters of Slow Food USA that through events and initiatives “link the pleasures of the table with a commitment to protect the community, culture, knowledge and environment that makes this pleasure possible”.

Slow Food chapters provide workshops, tastings, and special events created to give exposure to those who are in the business of preserving heritage foods, customs and recipes in farms, markets and restaurants.  Many of these outings and events are currently in the planning stages. “Look for exciting Slow Food events in this upcoming year.  Our goal is to turn our awareness into a positive future for local foods and those that contribute to the well being of the planet”, said Chef Clark.   Another important goal for Chef Clark is to increase local membership in the organization.  “I hope that others will join me in being a part of this outstanding, important mission to educate and preserve our food culture”.

The first of these events is the 2nd annual F & B Tasting hosted by Agustin Kitchen and Slow Food Southern Arizona on Sunday, April 27 from 5 -7 pm at Mercado san Agustin located at 100 S Avenida Del Convento.  The event will showcase offerings from local restaurants including Acacia, Agustin Kitchen, Pasco, Proper, Prep & Pastry and Zona 87; breweries including Dragoon, Borderlands, Ten55, and Old Bisbee Brewing; and wineries including Arizona Stronghold, Callaghan, Dos Cabezas and Pillsbury. Tickets are $35 per person and can be purchased online.     Space is limited.
