It’s that time of year again when the most disgusting and famous holiday candy crowds the shelves. Please do not protest. I can see throngs of people known as ETfP (ethical treatment for peeps) writing me nasty letters.

There’s going to be a Peep Show announced in Washington D.C. this year. The winner will be announced in the April 8 edition of the Washington Post.

According to the website, PeepShow.com, one peep has 32 calories. Yellow is the favorite color and this year a sugar free peep has been introduced as well as cocoa flavored bunnies. Peeps have a shelf life of two years which means you might not be buying a fresh package.

The artist who is a peeping Tom of sorts, took the peeps to a whole new level (as in inedible) which in my mind they are already and sprayed them with neon paint.

  1. I think I am the only person on the planet that has never eaten a Peep. My mother never bought them for our Easter baskets when we were growing up. In fact, I didn’t know what they were until I saw some in my nieces’ Easter baskets about 10 years ago.

Peeps certainly are a phenomena though.

I think it is fascinating how new traditions are formed and how quickly they are adopted. Just look at the “green bean casserole”, “honey-baked spiral hams”, “hanging plastic Easter eggs on trees outside in your yard” — we never did any of this when I was growing up in the 60’s.
